Obituary for Sandra Dawn Lilly

Sandra Dawn Lilly died peacefully Sunday afternoon after a brief illness.  Dawn was born December 30, 1937 in Lisbon Falls to loving parents Lorna and Heyward Newcomb. She graduated from Morse High School Class of ’56 where she was involved in many activities including cheerleading, MoHiBa, and the Morse Mentor newspaper. In 1957 she married Herbert B. Lilly, Jr., Morse Class of ’54, and they built an active life and family together. When her children were school age she worked for several years as a typist at BIW. At age 50 Dawn took college classes through the University of Maine, Augusta, toward a degree in writing. She was an accomplished writer and photographer. Dancing, sailing, travel and Scrabble were among her favorite activities. Through much of her life she was active in the Woolwich Historical Society and Sagadahoc Preservation while also supporting many local and national causes.  Late in life she made a trip alone on an adventure to China. She put her heart into everything she did as a parent and community member.  Dawn’s sharp intellect and high standards always presented her family and friends with challenges as well as opportunities for personal growth.

Dawn was predeceased by her parents and her brother, David.  She is survived by her husband Herbert, her daughters Heidi LaGanga, Paige Lilly, Tamara Lilly and Tamara’s partner Joe Bisson, and four grandchildren, Anthony and Samantha LaGanga and Lorna and Matthew Stephens.
