Robert M. Waterman Sr.

1926 – 2015

NEW GLOUCESTER- Robert M. Waterman Sr., 89, a lifelong resident of New Gloucester passed away Thursday, July 16, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 10, 1926, son to Herbert and Thirza Waterman. He attended New Gloucester schools while growing up and working on the family dairy farm, Hillsdale Farm. As a grown man he worked at the Oliver Stores, then drove a tractor trailer truck for Continental Baking for numerous years after.

Bob was known for his love of family, his big smiles and warm hugs that spread over three loving generations. He was a warm and caring husband. As a father, he was always there, whether to show support or lend a helping hand, he was active and present in the lives of his children. To his grandchildren and great grandchildren he was the most kind, gentle, silly, and loving “Grampy” and “Papa” anyone could ask for. He was very loved and will forever be missed.

Bob also genuinely loved the outdoors; camping, driving his tractor, and puttering in his gardens. Though he was always happy at home on his own property, Bob also loved to travel, and got to do so often with his wife Jeanne.

Bob is survived by Jeanne Waterman, his wife of 67 years, his son, Robert Waterman Jr. and wife Glenda, of Gray, his daughter Kathleen Waterman and husband Martin Roth, of Vermont, and his daughter, Laura Leavitt and husband Donald of New Gloucester; his five grandchildren, Nicole Leavitt, Melinda Bedard, Robert Waterman III, Sarah Gould, and Leanne Weaver; and seven great grandchildren. Survivors also include his brother Willard Waterman, and sisters Estella McLean and Cathryn Olson.
