Robert “Bob” A. Schaefer was born August 22, 1948, in Belleville, Illinois. After high school, Bob enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Asia Pacific on a destroyer, the U.S.S. Blue (DD-744) and received an honorable discharge in 1966. In the mid-1980s, Bob moved to Pascagoula, where he met and married his beloved Sara. Bob and Sara became partners in everything, enjoying many trips, league nights, and card games with their special group of bowling friends.
Bob was a successful bowler, tossing several perfect games. Bob also enjoyed backyard cornhole games and barbecues with close friends and family. Bob was an accomplished woodworker, creating and refinishing many beautiful pieces over the years. Bob loved to root for the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, and Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Bob was preceded in death by parents Eugene and Martha Schaefer and James and Opal Campbell, and son Daniel Byrd.
Bob is survived by Sara Schaefer, his cherished wife of 37 years; daughter Gina (Anthony) Dressler of Tampa, Florida; son Scott Byrd of Louisiana; son Mark Schaefer of Tampa, Florida; son Dean (Michelle) Byrd of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; daughter Teressa (Brian) Mercer of Hurley, Mississippi; son Eric Schaefer of Springfield, Ohio; brother Gary (Betty) Schaefer of Athens, Georgia; sister Debbie (Keith) Mitchell of Shalimar, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
