Robert “Bob” Edwin Shasserre was born November 29, 1930 in St. Louis, MO to Frank Sr. and Helen Myer Shasserre and passed away February 5, 2014 at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 6 days.
Bob married Helen L. Conner on June 30th, 1951 in Steelville, MO and to this union two sons were born, Jerry and Tim.
The Frank Shasserre Sr. family lived in St. Louis until Bob was a year old and then moved to the farm near Cuba, MO. Bob attended Oak Shade Grade School. During these eight years of school some of his teachers were Pat (Rolen) Bass and Wilbur Woodruff. He graduated from Cuba High School in 1948.
Bob worked on the farm as a boy growing up, but did not want to be a farmer. He had always liked mechanics. He started in the mechanical trade as soon as he graduated from high school.
He and Helen moved to Steelville when they married in 1951. Bob worked at Schwieder Ford and then in 1953 they moved to Cuba. He operated a service station and later worked for the Cuba School District as manager of the school bus operation. He maintained the buses and drove one. There were only four buses in 1954. He was on the Cuba Fire Department and a Cub Scout den dad while they were living in Cuba.
Bob was a nature lover. He enjoyed gardening, watching and feeding the birds and liked to travel especially to the Western and Southwestern states. He enjoyed reading, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, listening to music and going to Branson. In his earlier years, he enjoyed card playing especially pinochle and a doing a little fishing. He was also involved in stock cars during the 1950’s and 1960’s working in the pits.
Bob was a member of the Steelville First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Helen M. Shasserre; his parents in-law, James Leo and Murill Souders Conner; his step-mother, Helen Partish Shasserre; brother in-law, Bill Lewis; sister in-law, Georgetta Shasserre: and most recently his son, Jerry Shasserre who passed away November 9, 2013.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen L. Shasserre of the home in Steelville; son Tim Shasserre and wife Linda of Steelville, MO; three granddaughters, Jane Bullock and husband Paul, Debbie Moses and husband, Jeff and Mara Shasserre all of Steelville, MO; grandson, Specialist Robert Shasserre and wife Stephanie of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; four great-grandsons, Dusty, Trever and Luke Bullock of Steelville, MO and Kaleb Shasserre of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; two great-granddaughters, Alaina Shasserre of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Miriam Moses of Steelville, MO; one brother, Frank Shasserre Jr. of Cuba, MO; one sister in-law, Irene Lewis of Cuba, MO; three nieces, Carol Kumbera and husband Bob of Cuba, MO, Sharon Bell and husband Russ of Manhattan, KS and Michelle Hughs and husband Matt of St. Clair, MO; three nephews, Paul Shasserre and wife Debbie of Cuba, MO, Tom Shasserre and wife Marsha of Chamois, MO and Scott Lewis and wife Lisa of Palm Beach, FL; other relatives and friends.
