Priscilla Worth Pyle

Priscilla Worth Pyle, 94, of Gray and recently, North Berwick, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2015, at Varney Crossing Nursing Care Center in North Berwick surrounded by family.

Born in Hackensack, NJ, on December 13, 1920, to the late Charles Chandler and Florence Smith Worth, she grew up in Larchmont, NY and summered in Sandy Point, Maine.

Priscilla was a legal secretary at the Bangor Court House as well as a secretary at the University of Maine in Orono.

A devoted volunteer, she served in roles as varied as membership on the Board of Directors at the Calais Regional Hospital and as Chair of the Friends of the Spaulding Memorial Library in Sebago. Priscilla married the late Roy Fernald, Esq., of Winterport in 1942. Widowed at a young age, she raised her three children alone until her marriage to the late J. Wesley Pyle in 1960. Their 46 year marriage was lived in Bangor, Calais, Standish, and Gray.

Priscilla was also predeceased by her grandson Adam Worth Sherlock, sister Florence Crandall, and son-in-law Peter Heitmann.

She is survived by her daughters Priscilla Fernald Heitmann of North Berwick and Elizabeth Worth Pyle Sherlock and her husband, David, of Gray, son Charles Worth Fernald of Marcellus, NY, stepson Robert Pyle of Northeast Harbor, niece Worth Douglas of Brighton, MA, grandchildren Erik Heitmann, Justin Heitmann, Kyle Sherlock, Elena Sherlock, Elizaveta Sherlock, Nina Sherlock, Louisa Pyle, and Patricia Johns. She also leaves behind great granddaughters Eva and Sidney Heitmann.

Remembered by her family as an avid reader, homemaker, cook, and animal lover, as well as a gracious hostess, Priscilla was cherished by all who knew her.
