Myrtle Dargus, 96, of Warren, MN, passed away on Thursday, March 10,2016, in her home that she shared with her granddaughter in Fargo, ND, under care of hospice.

Myrtle Helen Olson was born on June 10, 1919, in Star Lake Township, Otter Tail County, MN, to Willie and Mabel (Haugen) Olson. She was baptized in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church near Dent, MN. Her family moved to the Newfolden, MN, area when she was a young girl and she graduated from 8th grade at the country school there. Myrtle was confirmed in 1937, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Newfolden.

On June 16, 1940, Myrtle was united in marriage to Elmer Leader, on the Leader family farm near Warren, by Zion Lutheran Church’s minister. Elmer passed away on April 7, 1968, after which, Myrtle continued to live in Warren. On March 29, 1969, Myrtle was married to Fred Dargus, and they moved into her home, where they spent twenty years together before Fred passed away on August 18, 1989.

In 2003, Myrtle was selected as Outstanding Senior Citizen for Warren. She helped start the Senior Citizen Bowling League at “Cactus Lanes,” where Myrtle bowled for 25 years. She did a lot of volunteering over the years with the Warren Senior Center and Zion Lutheran Church, in addition to working for 14 years in the Warren Public School’s kitchen as assistant cook. Myrtle truly loved to help others but loved her family most of all.

Myrtle is survived by her son, Larry (Susan) Leader of Arlington, SD; grandchildren, Tim (Beth) Leader, Robin Leader, Kurt (Cherie) Leader, Jason (Crystal) Leader, Dallas (Allen) Mulvin, Jason Gallaway, Sueann (Toney) Wiepen and Emily Burgess; step-sons, Myron Dargus of Thief River Falls, and Merle Dargus of Red Wing, MN; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Levi, Justin, Colby, Mariah, Cody, Caleb, James, Cole, Leah, MaKinzie and Kaycee; and siblings, Donna Landreville of Warren, and William Olson of Newfolden.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elmer and Fred, brothers, sisters and great-grandson, Gage.
