NEW ALBANY- Mother Verlean Ragland, 96, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany. She was born on September 5, 1921 in Union County to the late Pink Pulliam and Annie Dye. Mother Ragland confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Union Grove Church, in later years, she joined Holy Temple Church of God where she remained until her health declined.
Mother Ragland leaves to cherish her memories her children: James Dean, Ruby Godwin (George) Joyce White, Richard Smith (Amy), Annie Jean Smith, and LeeSmith (Georgia) all of New Albany, MS, Jerry Dean (Jean) of Huntsville, AL, thirty-two grandchildren, sixty-nine great grandchildren, and thirty-two great-great-grandchildren, three sisters: Jewdean Newton, Earnestine Ivy and Annetta Adams, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three children: Yvone Starks, Joe Edwards and Earl Dean, three brothers: Noverda Pulliam, Cecil Pulliam and Willlie “Sonny” Pulliam, one sister: Ruby Alexander, two grandchildren: Natanya Dean, and Salvatorie Smith, one great-grand child: Arielle Longstreet.
