Elcylean Hamer was born October 15, 1922. She was one of five children born to the late O.C. and Malinda Poplar. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Edger Chapel M.B. Church in Grand Junction, TN. She later joined Hardaway Baptist Church in Michigan City, MS where she served as a member of the mother board.
Elcylean was united in holy matrimony to L.B. Hamer in 1945. She was a proud mother of eleven children.
Elcylean was preceded in death by L.B. Hamer (husband), Sallie Hoyle (sister), Louise McKinnie (sister), Cater Poplar (brother), A.C. Poplar (brother), Bonnie Webb (daughter), George Poplar (son), Jennie Gibson (daughter), Frederick Hamer (grandson), Teresa Hamer (granddaughter), Eddie Byers Jr. (grandson), Bria Hunter (great- granddaughter), Tristan Walker (great-grandson), and Wilmontre Hamer (great-grandson).
She leaves to cherish her memories: 5 daughters Malinda (Rally) Shield, Ester Avery, Jeanette Hamer all of Chicago, IL; Marylean (Barry) Payne of Lamar, MS; and Virginia Gibson of Michigan City, MS. 3 sons L.B. (Arlean) Hamer, Cater (Mary) Hamer, and Troy (Sarah) Hamer all of Michigan City, MS. 36 grandchildren: Linda, Shelia, Ratanya, Tammy, Darron, Melissa, Henry Jr, Sylvester, Sally, Carol, Michael, Danny, Rhonda, Catrenia, Latunial, Willie Jr., Penny, Lakeshia, Natalie, Cindy, Denise, Cater Jr, Jeffrey, Ki’itchia, Kordney, Lakimberly, Darnell Jr, Eric, Marisa, Daron, Barry Jr, Cordaron, ShaKayla, Montrel, Keontrae, and Tralyssa. 1 sister-in-law Bettie-Sue Poplar, 2 special great-grandchildren Se’Toria and Damein, 73 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
