Melvin Jorgenson passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the North Valley Health Center in Warren, MN at the age of 88.
Melvin E. Jorgenson was born on January 2, 1916 in rural Argyle, MN, the son of George and Hannah (Myrfield) Jorgenson. He was Baptized and Confirmed at the Alma Lutheran Church. He attended country school at rural Argyle. He was in the US Army during World War II from June of 1942 until October of 1945. He served in the European Theatre Operations and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge. Melvin married Verna Jensen on December 11, 1942. After being discharged from the Army, he worked at various jobs in the Warren area. He was employed full time with the City of Warren from 1959 – 1981. He was a part time employee for an additional ten years. Melvin was also the custodian at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for twenty-four years. He entered the Good Samaritan Center in May of 2003.
He was a member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Warren American Legion Post 27.
Melvin enjoyed fishing, wood working and gardening.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 61 years, Verna and two children; Donald (Barbara) Jorgenson of St. Paul, MN and Diane (John) Prior of Sisseton, SD, five grandchildren, Erin (Todd) Basney of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Jorgenson of Seattle, WA, Jason Jorgenson of St. Paul, MN, Matthew and Lindsey Prior of Sisseton, SD, two brothers, George “Hillman” (Jane) Jorgenson of Iron, MN and Vernon (Joan) Jorgenson of Thief River Falls, MN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, James, parents, four brothers, Oliver, Alton, Clifford and Lloyd and an infant sister, Gladys.
FUNERAL: 2:30 PM on Friday at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren, MN.
