Mary Louise Glover (nee Voytek) age 99 years, of Livonia, Michigan passed away on March 21, 2021 in the morning. She has gone home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with family, especially her beloved husband Alfred Lawrence Glover and her beloved son, Edward Lawrence Glover.
Mary is survived by her daughter Barbara Glover, her son’s four children who were her sweet, much-loved grandchildren, her nephews: Bill Voytek, Michael Voytek (Rebecca), Charles Voytek (Monica); her nieces: Karen Fratto, Deborah Fratto(Bernie) and Nancy Diroff (Vincent) and many other beloved cousins, grand nieces and nephews, and family friends.
Mary was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 2, 1921 to John and Emily Voytek. She was of Czechoslovakian heritage. She had two brothers who have preceded her in death, George Voytek (Sophie) and William Voytek (Shirley). Mary’s youth was spent on the east side of Detroit on Monterey Street and her summers were spent on her grandparents’ farm near Chesaning, Michigan. She was a country girl at heart, but she was one of those people who made friends wherever she went. She graduated in 1939 from St. Cecilia High School in Detroit, Michigan. She worked for many years at Detroit Diesel in bookkeeping and clerical work. She made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed: golf, skiing, reading, nature walks, and crocheting.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, she treated everyone close to her as if they were family. She loved having all the neighborhood children come to her house when she was raising her own children. Many of these children, to this day, consider her to be a second mother to them. She was kind hearted and always ready to help people out especially children, the elderly and animals. She had a big heart. Mary was strong willed and a real go getter. She had a career for 20 years before marriage and traveled solo (Colorado and Maine), and with friends (Puerto Rico), way back before most women were independent. She was independent, strong, and brave. Her resilience was forged in the Great Depression and World War Two era. In later years, she traveled with her husband to the British Isles and with her daughter to France, The Czech Republic, New Mexico, California and Arizona.
To know Mary was to love or like her. She will be greatly missed. The world was blessed to have her and it is a poorer place with her passing. We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with God and her beloved family members and is watching over us. We will miss you forever and always remember you Mary. You were a blessing!
