Mary E. Stewart, age 97, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 4:05 pm Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Beth Haven Nursing Home.  

Mary was born on October 22, 1922, in Bluffton, AR the daughter of Cecil and Ethel (Lazenby) Holiman.

She was united in marriage to Herbert Lee Stewart on July 24, 1945 in Pine Bluff, AR.  He preceded her in death on July 30, 2013. 

Survivors included a son, Mike Stewart and wife Kathy of Hannibal, MO; grandchildren, Charles Stewart and wife Laura of Hannibal, MO, Joshua Stewart and wife Melissa of Mexico, MO, and Clara Black and husband Travis of Kearney, MO; great grandchildren, Macy, Alice, Ava, Lainey, Oliver, Della and one great granddaughter due in August. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her siblings, Clete Holiman, Hogan Holiman, Homer Holiman, Ralph Holiman, John Marshall Holiman, Irene Ferguson, Irmine Holiman, and  Irma Lee.

Mary graduated from Fourche Valley High School in 1940 and went on to further her education at a local business school where she received a degree in business. 

Mary worked as a homemaker and farmers wife all her life and wouldn’t have traded it for anything.

Mary enjoyed working around her home and the farm with her husband.  She enjoyed sewing clothes for her family, crocheting, canning the vegetables from her garden and attending to her beautiful flower beds.  Mary was also an excellent cook and baker.  She had baked hundreds of loaves of bread over her years and was known by her grandchildren for her apple crisp and lemon lush.  Mary’s biggest love was her family and the time they spent together.

Mrs. Stewart was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hannibal.
