Mable Smidt, 88, of Argyle, MN, passed away on Monday evening, March 2, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren, MN.

Mable Florence Kroll was born on March 14, 1920 at Stephen, MN, the daughter of Rueben and Amelia (Hanson) Kroll. She attended school in the Stephen area. On Sept. 11, 1939, she married Gust Smidt. They made their home in rural Stephen, MN until 1950 when they moved to farm east of Argyle. They later moved into the city of Argyle. After she raised her family, she worked ate Peterson Dry Cleaning, Red Owl Grocery Store, Hartz Grocery Store, Durand Hardware, ran the cafe in Argyle and cooked at noon at the Farmer Dell. After she quit work, Mabel and Gust spent 30 years at the lake at Rocky Point Resort and Wheeler’s Point Resort. Gust died on October 25, 2001.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Free Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and secretary/treasurer for church circle. She was also a den mother for cub scouts, 4-H leader and a member of homemakers, Club 31 Card Club and the Argyle Senior Citizens.

Left to mourn her passing are four children: Sylvia Smidt of Bagley, MN, Alvin (Gaysha) Smidt of Las Cruces, NM, Glen Smidt and Milton Smidt both of Argyle, MN; five grandchildren, Kristi Smidt, Brian Smidt, Sara (Adam) Michaelson, Jody (Joel) Pulkrabek and Jeffrey (Deana) Westberg; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pearl Smidt of Stephen, MN and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Carol Westberg Grabanski; seven sisters and four brothers.
