Lyda Isabel Olson, daughter of John and Frances (Dowhower) Grythe, was born on November 8, 1908 in Badger, MN. She attended school in Duxby, MN. On Mary 22, 1927 she was united in marriage to Alvin Olson, also from Duxby, MN. They made their first home in Park River, ND, later moving to Hoople, ND. They later moved back and lived north of Badger, near the Roseau Refuge. In 1984, they sold their farm and built a new home one mile north of Badger where they lived until Albin died in February of 1995. Lyda then moved to the Northstar apartments in Roseau. In May of 2002, she entered Sheltering Oaks Manor where she resided until her death on June 1, 2007 at the age of 98.

Lyda was a member of the Badger Creek Free Lutheran Church, enjoying Ladies Aid and other church activities.

Lyda worked as a kitchen assistant at Northwest Agricultural School in Crookston, MN for 12 years. She accompanied Albin and worked as a cook for the workers at Northwest Angle for about five winters.
