Lloyd E. Sakrison, age 93, of Virginia died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at St. Michael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia. He was born April 2, 1921 in Virginia the son of Andrew and Ann (Thoen) Sakrison. He was a graduate of Virginia High School, and went on to attend Virginia Community College. He was united in marriage to Nona A. Peterson on January 14, 1948 in Virginia.
Prior to WWII Lloyd was employed by Lockheed Aircraft, in Burbank, CA, as a wood pattern maker and research model builder. He was drafted into the Army in August of 1943, but discharged in December of 1943, to return to his work at Lockheed to aid in the war effort. He was again drafted into the Army in June of 1944, and received a medical discharge in February of 1945.
Lloyd was employed by the Virginia Fire Department, retiring as Assistant Chief, for 34 years. From 1965 to 2000 he and his wife owned and operated Sakrison’s Hobby and Craft Center in Downtown Virginia. Lloyd served as a secretary/treasurer for the Virginia Fire Department Association. He also served on the Virginia School Board, Virginia Co-op Credit Union, Virginia Historical Society, St. Louis County Fair Board and as chaplain for the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Sons of Norway Haarfager Lodge of Virginia, American Legion Post #239, Virginia Reelers, and Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church. Lloyd raised South American chinchillas for over 30 years. His other interests included travel (especially to Hawaii), hunting, fishing, dancing, and baking.
Lloyd is survived by four children: Lowell (Sandy Stark) Sakrison of Virginia, Dale (Debbi) Sakrison of Cohasset, Jane Chilcote of Iron, and Lani (Mark) Bruzek of Duluth; eight grandchildren: Erikka Stillings, Andrew Sakrison, Kimberly Sakrison, Derek (Sarah) Sakrison, Shaina (Jared) Ostby, Adam Chilcote, Rebecca (Erik Rozner) Bruzek and Nicole (Daniel) Boehnen; six great-grandchildren: Kyrstin Stillings, Kelsey Stillings, Chloe Nybo, Libby Ostby, Elle Ostby and Evelyn Boehnen; and two great-great grandchildren: Stryker Pitkanen and Kilynne Pitkanen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Nona in 2011; his sister: Doris Kilfoil; and numerous aunts and uncles.
