Lloyd Nordling, 85, of East Grand Forks, MN, formerly of Alvarado, MN, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Lloyd Marvin Nordling was born on February 24, 1924 at Lake Bronson, MN, the son John and Alice (Carlson) Nordling. He moved to Alvarado with his family when he was 10 and he graduated from Alvarado High School. After he graduated from high school, he farmed for several years before attending the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN. On June 29, 1946, he married Betty Pilgren. They made their home in Alvarado. Lloyd worked for Alvarado Oil Company for twenty years, taught shop at Warren High School for one year and then he ran the central shop for the UND School of Engineering until retiring in 1986. In 1997, they moved to Park Rapids, MN and in 2005, they moved to Fargo, ND. They moved to East Grand Forks in October of 2009.

He was an active member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado where he served on the church board and was also on the building committee. Lloyd served as Fire Chief for many years on the Alvarado Fire Department and was on the Warren Hospital Board.

Lloyd loved to fish and in his later years, his great joy was giving harmonicas (hundreds of harmonicas) to children.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Betty of East Grand Forks, MN; son, Peter (Diane) Nordling of Fargo, ND; daughters-in-law, Deanna Nordling of Fargo, ND and Sharon Bubb of Alvarado, MN; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanne (Bob) Anderson of Warren, MN and Helen (Peder) Kitti of Des Moines, IA and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Keith and John and siblings, Melvin, George, Walter, Pearl, Roland, Doris and Myrtle.
