Leona Mary Hendrickson was born on July 28, 1918 in Warren, Minn., to Ara Broadwell and Lurena Elvina (Myers) Brown. She passed away February 2, 2009 in Mesa, Arizona.

Leona was a life-long resident of Warren. She worked as a dental assistant for C.A. Gunnarson; with the emergency crop and feed program for Oscar T. Johnson; and for the register of deeds for Henry Hanson.

On Oct. 11, 1944 she married Orvin Bennett Hendrickson of Oslo. In 1946, they started the H&H store and operated it for 46 years. In 1955, they originated the “Voice of Warren” radio broadcast and operated it 21 years.

Leona was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Priscilla Circle and the church historian. She was awarded special recognition from the United Methodist Women in 1984 and “Outstanding Woman of Warren” in 1991. Community service included Hospice, Mother’s Club, Hospital and Home Auxiliary, Am. Legion Auxiliary and more.

Left to mourn her passing are her four children: Mary (Richard) Emerson of Fargo, ND; Charles (Barbara) Hendrickson of Kimball, MN; Kay (Robb) Root of Stillwater, MN; and Warren (Barbara) Hendrickson of Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her 100 year old sister Pearl Safranski passed away 8 days after Leona’s death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters Loretta Brown and Ethel Connole, one brother Elias Brown and an infant grandson Casey Bennett Hendrickson.
