Leona Anna Mullen, 97, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Sunday, August 12, 2007.

Leona was born Tuesday, October 5, 1909 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Henry Ben and Mary Minerva (nee Weber) Schroeder. She was united in marriage to John Edward Mullen on October 14, 1939 in Bourbon, Missouri and to this union two daughters were born. After 58 years of marriage John preceded her in death on March 20, 1997.

Those left to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Karen Cottrell and husband Bob of Steelville, Missouri and Rosemary Pope of Desoto, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Holly Cottrell and friend Mike Wells, of Steelville, Missouri, Erik Pope and wife Angie of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Julee Bass and husband Stephan of Steelville, Missouri, Andrea Pope of St. Louis, Missouri, Corey Cottrell and wife Tonya, Colin Cottrell and wife Stephanie all of Steelville, Missouri, Tim Pope of St. Louis, Missouri, Karey Franz and husband Jess of Steelville, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica Pope, Riley Buttars, Brenden Bass, Hannah Cottrell, Cayman Cottrell, Trent Bass, Chase Cottrell and Cale Cottrell; and one sister-in-law, June Mullen. She was preceded death by one son-in-law, Bill Pope; one brother, Bernard Schroeder; one sister, Katherine Gazzalo; and two brothers-in-law, Leroy Mullen and Frank Gazzolo; and one sister-in-law, Catherine Schroeder.

Leona had been a member of St. Gabriel the Archangel and St. Gerard Magella and presently a member of St. Michaels’ Catholic Church of Steelville, Missouri. She was a past member of Ladies Sodality and quilting circle. Leona loved her family and church. Her Credo of faith, family, and hard work were recognized by her friends and relatives down thru the years.
