Obituary
Larry J. Wigge of Maryland Heights, Missouri passed away on September 4, 2018 at the age of 68 at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. Larry was a passionate sports journalist, having penned thousands of articles for the Sporting News for more than 30 years. He continued his writing thereafter with features on NHL.com for several years, and his own personal blog, Wigge’s World, until 2016. He was a central figure among his peers writing about all things hockey. Larry wrote with a style that engaged fans with the players on-the-ice stats as well as off, sharing the players’ personal interests, motivation, leaders of influence, and their favorite movies. There was nothing Larry loved more than to talk about sports, and catch a game at Ozzie’s Sports Bar and Hotshots with his friends, or sneaking in 9 holes at St. Andrew’s golf course. He is survived by his brother, Leonard (Carol) Wigge of Foristell, MO; sister, Margie Wigge of Stuart, FL; two nieces, Tammy (Joe) Salvatore of California, Sandra (Michael) McKeage; nephew, Leonard (Katie) Wigge Jr. of Wright City, MO; Three Great Nieces, Grace Salvatore of California, Angelea McKeage of Lake St. Louis, MO, Lilly Wigge of Wright City, MO; Two Great Nephews, Brenden McKeage of Lake St. Louis, MO, Lucas Wigge of Wright City, MO; He is preceded in death by his father, Aloys J. Wigge, mother, Agnes M. Wigge nee Brockland. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
