LaVerne May Stanhope, 71 of Baudette, MN died, Sunday, April 1, 2007 in the Lakewood Health Center in Baudette. She was born May 9, 1935 to Gottlieb and Jenny (Jones) Kiehl in Detroit Lakes, MN. She was a 1953 graduate of the Audubon High School.
Following graduation she married Jack Stanhope on May 20, 1954 in Frazee, MN. They lived in Detroit Lakes, MN for a couple of years until moving to Rockford, IL for about 7 years and then they returned to Detroit Lakes. They moved to Pembina, ND in 1972 where she was active with crafts and with her church. In 1986 they purchased the KOA Campground on the Rainy River and renamed it the Lake of the Woods Campground and have been the owners and operators ever since.
