Kenneth Price, 88, of Stephen, MN, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2015, at his home with his family by his side.
Kenneth Stanley Price was born on October 7, 1927, in Wanger Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Stanley and Theresa (Gajeski) Price. He was raised in rural Stephen and he graduated from high school at the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN in 1944. Kenneth served in the US Army from 1946-1948 where he was a technical sergeant. On June 20, 1950, he married Rose Marie Kochmann in Beaulieu, MN. They made their home in rural Stephen where he farmed. Kenneth was also a Marshall County Commissioner for many years and sold cookware in his time off and between harvests. Kenneth was known as a farmer, a public servant, and a strategic thinker who was also President of the National Association of Counties, Minnesota from 1983-1984.
Kenneth was a natural athlete and, in his younger years, especially enjoyed playing baseball as a catcher with the team in Florian. It’s been said that he hit the longest homerun on record after careening a ball off a nearby silo. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Stephen Lions Club.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 65 years, Rose Marie; seven children, Paulette M. (Lee) Powell of Kanata, Ontario, Canada, Brenda J. (Dion) Darveaux of Dalton, MN, Julianne T. (Cully) Gause of Grand Forks, ND, Vincent L. (Jennifer) Price of Arlington, VA, Dale R. (Barbara) Price of Stephen, MN and Kevin S. (Autumn) Price of McLean, VA; daughter-in-law, Kim Price of Fargo, ND; nineteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary; son, Ronald G. Price; sisters, Florence Abel and Alvina Kranz and brother, Raymond Price.
