Kathryn Louise Childress Webb age 96 of Pascagoula, MS met Jesus face-to-face on March 20, 2023. Born May 8, 1926 in DeQueen, Arkansas to the late Curtis Ewing Childress and Lois Johnson Childress, she had been a resident of Pascagoula since 1957. Kathryn, started early in the career God chose for her by aiding patients as a teenager at her grandmother’s hospital. At the end of WWII Kathryn completed her nursing training and began her career as a nurse in Shreveport, LA. There she met Joe M. Webb and they were married June 11, 1954. In 1957 the family moved to Pascagoula, MS and there Kathryn served her community until her retirement in 1999. During those years Kathryn completed a master’s degree in mental health nursing, worked at Singing River Hospital, MS Home Health, and taught in the MS Gulf Coast Community College’s AD Nursing Program. After her retirement she volunteered more than 15 years with Singing River Auxiliary.
Kathryn is most known for the love of Christ she shared with anyone she met. Countless people testify of her presence in their lives in times of need. God gifted Kathryn with a love for people that her family, her patients, and her community benefitted. She remained a very active member of First Baptist Church, Pascagoula until just a few months before her death.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Joe M. Webb, her sister Nelda Sue Lile and brother Donald E. Childress. Among those left to cherish her memory are son Curtis (Theresa) Webb of Pascagoula, MS, daughter Jenness (Jim) Hunter, of Pace, FL; and grandchildren Jordan Hunter, Marshall (Kelsey) Webb, Kinsey (Colton) Brooks, and Lanae Webb. Kathryn had one great grandson, Oliver Reed Brooks, and was looking forward to a great granddaughter due in June 2023, sister Kathryn Crews, sister-in-law Linda Webb, and numerous nieces and nephews.
