Justin Haugtvedt, 22, of Warren MN, was found on October 9, 2015, after going missing on October 3, on Lake of the Woods, between Oak Island and Flag Island, near the Canadian border.
Justin was born on May 6, 1993, in Fargo, ND, to Rodger and Kimberly (Tanner) Haugtvedt. He grew to adulthood in the Warren area and graduated from Warren-Alvarado-Oslo High School in 2012.
While in school, Justin’s first love in sports was wrestling. He played flag football before “real” football became his game. He also enjoyed his time with track and golf. Justin also loved the outdoors; a love he shared with his father. Whether fishing or hunting, or just being outside, nature was his passion.
After high school, Justin went to Moorhead Tech. He lived in Moorhead for one school year but decided that school wasn’t for him. He then came home and worked for Miller Electric.
In December of 2013, the lake called him after years of preparation. Since Justin was little, his family had a camper, a trailer, or a resort room on the Lake of the Woods and he grew to love the area. Upon accepting the job opportunity of his life, he moved to Baudette, MN, to work at Sporty’s (Sportsman’s Lodge). During the summers, Justin’s need to be outdoors led him to work for a local farmer, all the time waiting to get back out on the ice for winter fishing. This past summer, he worked for a construction crew (so he could spend more time on the lake).
Known as “Huggie,” Justin’s smile could light up a room whenever he entered it. His heart was so big; he loved so many and was loved by more.
His loving family includes his parents, Rodger and Kim Haugtvedt of Warren; grandparents, Gary and Opal Tanner of Middle River, MN, Julia Haugtvedt of Warren; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many, many friends.
Justin was preceded in death by his grandfather, Stanley Haugtvedt, uncle, Richard, and cousin, Kayla Kostrzewski.
