Joyce Irene (Bowman) Stewart, 87, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Beth Haven Nursing Home.

Joyce was born on July 21, 1931, in Hannibal, MO the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Meyer) Bowman.

She was united in marriage to Thomas R. Stewart on October 5, 1952, in Hannibal, MO at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  To this union Tom says, “the best marriage is like Heaven on Earth.”

Survivors include her husband, Thomas R. Stewart of Hannibal, MO; children, Karen Folwarski and husband Tom of St. Louis, MO and David L. Stewart and wife Cathy of Hannibal, MO; siblings, Joan Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Vince Bowman (Jeanne) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Carol Sestric of St. Louis, MO and Tony Bowman (Mary Glenn) of Hannibal, MO; grandchildren, Erin Fete (Clay), Jenna Kopff (Dave), Kim Brown (Rob), Sara Folwarski(fiancé Tony Sieve), Christy Adams (Michael) and Lindsey Montague (Marcus);ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Bowman.

Joyce graduated from McCooey High School in 1949.

Before retirement Joyce worked as a bookkeeper for United Citizens Gas and later for her family company Stewart Refrigeration.

Mrs. Stewart was known for her communication skills and was a licensed HAM Radio operator with the call numbers K0RBF.  Joyce also enjoyed cooking, quilting, painting, sewing and upholstery work.  Joyce and Tom enjoyed traveling across the United States and several countries.  Hawaii and Europe are just a few of the places they enjoyed traveling to.

When time allowed, Joyce could be found mowing her yard or working in her flower beds.  She was even known to clean the gutters or replace shingles that had blown off the roof.

Joyce loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings.  She enjoyed and cherished each holiday, birthday and anniversaries they spent together.

Joyce was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

In honor of Joyce, the family asks you wear a touch of red (Joyce’s favorite color) in remembrance of her to the service.
