AUBURN, MAINE

Jack attended commercial art school and was an accomplished painter, and his comics appeared in Hardware Age magazine. He was a member of the Weston Arts and Crafts Association (WACA), and often headed the organization’s “Art on the Green” annual event. Along with wife Janet, who also was a painter, he participated in several local art shows. He also loved maps and history, and blended the two into unique paintings that featured the chronology of local homes and landmarks.

A natural craftsman, Jack built everything from stone walls and terraces surrounding the house to more elaborate home furnishing projects. He created birdhouses from birch logs and dollhouses embellished with the finest detail. Miniatures were his specialty, and included detailed replicas of a thatched roof “toy shop” and the fieldstone church he attended as a child, both of which were displayed every Christmas at home.

Jack loved to take long drives with his wife and explore the local Maine landscape—and a few antique shops. He loved all things nature, and had a special fondness for animals. He especially enjoyed the birds outside the house, and often spent hours watching and feeding them.

Most of all, Jack was known for his quick, dry wit and spontaneous outbursts of humor. He was a devoted husband and father, and a kind soul to all. He will forever will live in the hearts of those who knew him.

Jack leaves behind six children, Deborah Lareau, Diane Jinson and John Martin, Jr.
