John Pershing Kenworthy, the son of Matilda E. (Danielson) and Daniel L. Kenworthy was born on February 19, 1918 in Roseau, MN. He grew up on a farm in Malung Township of Roseau County and attended school there. He worked at the paper mill in International Falls, MN. He and Betty Cole were married on March 6, 1943 in Roseau. John worked for a short time at Penny’s in Roseau, and later was the Head Custodian at the Roseau School for 28 A years, retiring in 1982. In addition to his work at the school, he and Betty farmed small grain, turkeys, and later ponies in Malung Township. After Betty’s death in 2004, he later moved to Bemidji, MN.
John enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking. He will be remembered for his honesty, his friendliness, his positive and cheerful attitude, and how he took care of his wife, Betty through her long illness. He also taught Sunday School for many years and helped with the Moe Lutheran Church pancake dinners.
John Kenworthy passed away on June 6, 2007 at his residence in Bemidji, MN.
He is survived by his children, Kathy (Rev. Ernest) Christensen of Mentor, MN, Chuck Kenworthy of Roseau, Melinda (Rev. Dick) Bolen of Palm Bay, FL, Mary (Clint) Cole of Roseau, Nancy (Mark) Haddix of Bay Minette, AL, and Peggy (Shane) Olson of Bemidji, MN; 15 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and siblings, Wayne, Rhoda and Rueben.
