Joan “Joni” Ann Govro, 67, of Steelville, MO passed away Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville. She was born July 28, 1941 in St. Louis, MO to Edward and Anna (Nussbaum) Lammert. On August 19, 1985, she was united in marriage to Jim Govro who survives of the home.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Jim of twenty-three years, her daughter, Dawn Frank of Brentwood, MO; one son, Michael Alan Smith Jr. of Joplin, MO; three grandchildren, Michele, Jonathan and Ashley Ward and husband Dan; two great-grandchidren, Ashton and Miller; other relatives and friends.

Joni was preceded in death by her parents.

Joni had been very active in the community for several years. She had been an active member of the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce. She and Mrs. Leona Sexton designed a children’s coloring book for the chamber and she designed the mascot logo of Rebecca and Charley. Joni helped start the Christmas Pageant for the children and was actively involved in making the town’s Christmas festivities a special event with her husband, Jim.

She created the logo for the Steelville Country Club. She was a member of the Steelville Art Guild and was involved in starting the Mrs. Dogwood Pageant where she made the first crown. Joni also helped her husband, Jim, who was active in Kiwanis.

Cindy Martin always referred to her as “My Fair Lady” because she always took the time to do everything to perfection and paying attention to every detail.
