James George Taylor Sr. passed away at his home in Gautier on Monday October 31, 2022 at the age of 80.
James was born in Pascagoula, MS to James Duvall and Lucille Webb Taylor on December 4, 1941. He married Orba Malone in May of 1962. The marriage knot was tied tight and lasted until her death in 2020. Together they raised four sons, James Jr., Scotty, Curtis and Matt. James was a longtime member of Skylark Missionary Baptist Church serving as deacon for many years. He worked as a machinist for Ingalls Shipbuilding retiring after 42 years of service. Many of the stories he loved to tell were about his days at the shipyard where, he was known as “Oppie Taylor”. He loved gardening and yard work. He had a tender spot for nature, creatures, birds, raccoons, squirrels etc. and fed them to make sure they survived. His boys knew there would be consequences if they were to harm them.
James was easy going, laid back and kind towards everyone. His love, devotion and care of Orba, during their marriage and through her sickness and death, set the bar high. His boys would only understand the magnitude of the love and care he gave when they experienced the journey of sickness and death with him. He left and incredible example and big shoes for them to fill. Words fail to express how much he is missed already.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Orba and a sister, Edwina Moore.
He is survived by his sons and caregivers; James G. Taylor (Margie) of Melbourne, FL, Jeffery Scott Taylor of Gautier, MS, Curtis Taylor (Nicole) of Vancleave, MS and Matthew Taylor (Miranda) of Pascagoula, MS; grandchildren, Nick Taylor, Orba “Stormy’ Taylor, Brett Taylor, Bridgett Taylor, Christopher Taylor (Qi), William Taylor, Morgan Keith, Caleb Bicnell, Brandon A Taylor, Emily Taylor and Seth Taylor; two greatgrandchildren and a host of friends.
