J. Maynard Hillman was born on May 30, 1929 in Vega Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Aaron and Elizabeth (Johnson) Hillman. He was raised in Vega Township where he attended country school. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. On June 17, 1956, Maynard married Joyce Lodoen. They made their home in Warren.
