Irvine Louis Bowers of Cuba, Missouri passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at his home at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 28 days. He was born May 21, 1924 at Howes Mill, Missouri in Dent County to Otis W. Bowers and Lucy Caroline Wyman Bowers. On January 2, 1955 in Salem, Missouri, Irvine was united in marriage to Imogene Edgar and to this union two children were born.

Irvine served honorably in the U.S. States Army from 1943-1946 as a rifleman. He was in the 32nd Red Arrow infantry and fought from French Haven, New Guinea to the shores of Japan earning three Bronze Stars. Irvine worked at the Stock Yards in East St. Louis and dabbled in a dairy farm and real estate for a few years. He worked for Roberts-Judson at the Ready Mix Plant from 1965 to 1972. Irvine brought the first round hay baler to Crawford County around 1973 and in a couple of years began his twenty-five year career with Vermeer Manufacturing who made large round hay balers. Throughout most of his life, he was a cattle farmer and loved every moment of it.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba since 1966 and served as an Elder many times for several years. He was involved for many years in the American Angus Association, Crawford County Cattleman’s Association, National Cattleman’s Association, member of the DAV and member of the VFW Post 6479 of Steelville. He was an avid reader, loved to play a game of pool, enjoyed raising Angus cattle and enjoyed traveling on the Angus tours. Most of all he was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Lucy Bowers.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of sixty years, Imogene Bowers of Cuba, MO; one son, Andrew Bowers of Cuba, MO; and one daughter, Peggy Dyson and husband Kenny of Maplewood, MO; two sisters, Dormalie Lea and husband Bill and Mary West all of Steelville, MO; four grandchildren, Tara Burns and husband Sam, A.J. Bowers and wife Felicia, Ethan Bowers and fiance’ Ashley Norman and Elijah Bowers; four great-grandchildren, Rayland and Rhett Burns and Danica and Lane Bowers; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba.
