H. Willard Johnson, 87, of Argyle, MN died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at North Valley Health Center, Warren, MN.

H. Willard Johnson was born July 19, 1921 to Joseph and Mabel (Jorgenson) Johnson in Warrenton Township, Marshall County. He attended school in Boxville Township. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Aleutian Islands from 1943 to 1945. He married Leah Hebert on August 29, 1942 in Argyle. Leah died May 6, 2006. Willard was an active member of the Argyle Community. He served as Justice of the Peace and on the Argyle City Council and as Mayor from 1971 to 1986. He was a member of the Argyle Fire Dept. for 26 years and served as Fire Chief. He was also a member of the Argyle Lions Club, Argyle Sportsman’s Club, Argyle Commercial Club, Marshall Co. Historical Society, Knight’s of Columbus, Argyle Senior Citizens Club and was named Argyle Outstanding Senior Citizen. He was a charter member of the Argyle Historical Society along with John St. Germain and Oliver LaBine and was instrumental in relocation of the Argyle Depot to its present location and establishing the cattle car walking bridge at the Argyle Lion’s Park. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was a proud member of the Hogberg-Gerszewski Post #353, Argyle and served as Commander and took great pride as Sergeant of the Drill Squad for14 years.

He drove Argyle school bus and owned and operated the Blue Moon CafAC. with his wife and Adolph and Mae Myrfield. He was a Marshall Co. road grader operator and ran the Argyle Roxy Theater. In 1963 he and his wife opened the Argyle Locker Plant and retired after 21 years. After retiring he and his wife wintered in Arizona and Willard worked part time for Kellermeyer over 10 years. Willard took pride in all he did and was proud of the Community of Argyle.
