Grace Swanson, 88, of Warren, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the North Valley Health Center in Warren.
Grace Eleanor Swanson (Remme) was born on April 9, 1920 in Drayton, ND, to John and Rikka (Kjorsvik) Remme. Grace was raised on a farm in rural Drayton near Robbin where she attended school. On April 16, 1937, Grace was united in marriage to Alvin Maynard Oliver Swanson. They made their home in Argyle MN
.
Over the years Grace was employed by Elk Valley Bank in ND, Tischarts in Grand Forks, one year in 1940 Grace worked in a restaurant in Chicago and was quite surprised when she learned she had been working in a place owned by a cousin of Al Capone, and in 1969, Grace and Alvin opened the Hi-Bi Restaurant and Drive In, in Thief River Falls, Mn. Grace sold Avon and was also a group leader for Stanley Home Products for over 15 years. In 1978, Grace and Alvin moved to California and later moved to Thief River Falls where together they managed 60 housing units. In the fall of 1979 they moved to Warren where together the two built their home.
