Gerard “Jerry” Joseph Morneau, 100, of Brunswick, Maine died peacefully on May 18, 2017 at Avita of Stroudwater in Westbrook.  Jerry was born on July 16, 1916 in Ste-Rose-du-Degelis, Temiscoouata, Province of Quebec, Canada.  He was a loving, caring husband to his wife Aline Violet Morneau, and his children, Robert Morneau of Portland and his wife Deborah, Lynda Brown of Bradenton, Florida and her husband Dean, and Dianne Rosenberg of Memphis, Tennessee.  He is survived by grandchildren, Zachary Morneau, Michael Golding, and Emily Rosenberg; and two great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Jerry’s two passions were woodworking and golf.  He built his own home in Brunswick, as well as numerous furniture pieces for his family and charity.  One of his proudest moments was when he aced the 119-yard, fifth hole with a 7-iron at the Brunswick Golf Club where he was a longtime member until the age of 93.

Jerry was a devout Catholic, who served on the Board of St. John’s Catholic School, and participated with his wife in many of the church’s activities.  He also built and installed bookcases and bulletin holders at St. John’s.  Jerry’s devotion to his religion helped him cope with the loss of his wife Aline in 2014.  They were happily married for 60 years.

Jerry received a Certificate of Lifetime Achievement from the Maine Health Care Association on April 5, 2016 in recognition of his personal and professional accomplishments in the 2016 Remember ME Program.

Jerry’s final days at Avita of Stroudwater were spent in the warm sunshine where he was surrounded by the caring and confident nursing and support staff, as well as his family.  The family will never forget the quality of care afforded him, as well as the care and attention from Compassus Hospice.
