Portland – George Edward Beattie, 62, of Scarborough passed away on November 28, 2013. He was born on October 19, 1951 at Langley A.F.B, Virginia.
George was known by many names, but to me he was “Dad”. He will be missed not only by the family he leaves behind, but also by the many people whose lives he touched. His brother Jim and his childhood friends will remember George as a good-natured guy who was always willing to go out and play. His many teammates and opponents will remember “Zelmo” as a fierce competitor, but one who loved to play the game, be it baseball, basketball, football, or golf. The countless kids he coached throughout the years will remember “Coach Beattie” as patient and passionate. He loved to impart his knowledge to the kids he coached and he truly cared about each and every one of them.
