Gayle Pauline Bachman

Age 87 of Westland, Michigan. Cherished wife of Gordon for 58 wonderful years. Born April 14, 1934, in Alma, Wisconsin to Elsie and Roland Knospe. Gayle passed away peacefully March 8, 2022, at her apartment, Village of Westland, Senior Living.

At the early age of 4 ½ Gayle’s mother sent her to start school in Michigan at the Detroit Lutheran School for the Deaf. Here at the Detroit Lutheran School for the Deaf she made many lifelong friends with her classmates. Gayle would travel back and forth by train from Alma, Wisconsin to Detroit, Michigan for Christmas’s and summers. Gayle spent her summers on her family’s farm in Alma Wisconsin. Gayle attended and graduated High School at the Minnesota School of the Deaf in Faribault, MN. Gayle then attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC and graduated with a Library Science Degree. While on summer breaks Gayle worked in Yellowstone National Park. After College she lived in Washington, DC and met her husband to be Gordon J. Bachman. Gordon and Gayle were married in La Crescent, MN on May 14th, 1960, and started a family in Dearborn, Michigan. Gayle had two sons, Gary and Gregg. Gayle loved the family life and that kept her busy full time, her boys played travel hockey, time spent at her summer cabin on Van Etten Lake in Oscoda, Michigan, fishing, camping, backpacking with her family and all the different destinations for family vacations. Gayle loved being a member of the Lutheran Church. All her life Gayle took part in the Lutheran Deaf Church in many ways, Bible Study, Choir, and all other church activities. Gayle and her husband traveled extensively throughout the lower 48 by car.

Survived by her sons Gary, Gregg (Cyndi), sister-in-law Wilma Ambuehl, cousins Marilyn (Duane) Jonas, Marvis (Michael) Harper, Renae (Gordon) Dierauer and many other friends and distant relatives.

Proceeded in death by her husband Gordon, sister Ardiz Knospe, Brothers Bud Ambuehl, Dale Ambuehl and many other relatives and friends.
