Gary D. Kerns, age 65, of Frankford, MO passed away at 1:50 am Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at his home.  

Gary was born on October 26, 1954, in Louisiana, Missouri, the son of Cecil and Bessie (Finley) Kerns.

He was united in marriage to Linda Riney on June 1, 1974 in Hannibal, Missouri. She survives him of the home.

Other survivors include his daughters, Jennifer Scholes (Gary) and  Jessica Kerns, all  of Hannibal, MO; brother, Cecil “Herk” Kerns (Tammy) of New London, MO;  sisters, Sandy Smallwood of Lawrenceville, IL,  and Karen White of Quincy, IL; and grandsons, Tanner and Trevor Scholes, of Hannibal, MO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary graduated from Bowling Green High School and went on to further his education in Criminal Justice at Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State) Kirksville, MO and later received a business degree from  Hannibal-LaGrange College, Hannibal, MO and a Masters degree in Business from William Woods University, Fulton, MO.

Gary worked as a police officer in Bowling Green in the 70’s and in the Oklahoma oil fields in the early 80s. Most of his life was spent working in insurance sales and for a few years before retirement he was a Business Teacher at William Woods University in Fulton, MO.

Mr. Kerns was very active in the Frankford community, serving as Municipal Judge and later as Mayor.  When time was allowed, Gary enjoyed  traveling, reading, playing guitar and listening to 60’s and 70’s rock music.  He also enjoyed painting, watching movies and the companionship of his dog “Dakota”.  Gary especially cherished time spent with family and friends.
