Francis DeLisle, 94, of Stephen, MN, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, MN.
Francis Eugene DeLisle was born on July 15, 1921 at Pembina, ND, the son of Eugene and Mae (Bourgeois) DeLisle. He was raised in the Hallock and Kennedy area where he attended country school. Francis worked in the shipyards before WWII for a year before returning and working on the family farm. On February 26, 1944, Francis married Cordelia Undeberg. They made their home in Rolla, ND until moving to rural Stephen in 1946. Francis farmed, did carpentry and cement work (he built over 100 homes) and he also built Behlin Bins. Cordelia died on June 28, 2007.
He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.
Francis was a craftsman who enjoyed doing small woodworking projects, building hobby horses, wheelbarrows and airplanes, making aluminum can windmills, bird watching and feeding and painting saw blades. He was a great repurposer. He used scrap walnut to build grandfather clocks.
Left to mourn his passing are three daughters, Maureen (Paul) Machart of Apache Junction, AZ, Susan Jackson (John Olsen) of Middleton, ID and Gayle (Sterling) Hougard of Karlstad, MN; two sons, Daniel (Carrie) DeLisle of Warren, MN and David (Tammy) DeLisle of Stephen, MN; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Fern Brusegaard of Grand Forks, ND and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cordelia and siblings, Mayo, Diana, Beatrice, Noe, Cecil, Sidney, Vernie, Dorene, Loraine and Jean.
