On Thursday, January 19, 2023, Fern Elouise Severson of Roseau, MN peacefully passed away at the Roseau Manor at the age of 96.

Fern was born to Sam and Signe (Gavelin) Palm on May 12, 1926. She was brought up living near grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins near Wannaska, MN and was a life-long resident of Roseau County. She attended the Torfin School through 8th grade and shared many stories about her school days. She married Clifford Severson March 19, 1946 and together raised three daughters and one son on their farm near Wannaska, MN.

Fern was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. They sold the farm to their son Steve in 1993 and moved to their new home in Roseau. She was a homemaker her entire life excelling in cooking, baking, canning, sewing, crocheting, wood crafts and yard maintenance. She traveled with her husband to various places around the country including Alaska and Hawaii. Fern and Clifford enjoyed fishing on Lake of the Woods and in 1983 they purchased a lake home near Rocky Point north of Roosevelt, MN and spent many summers there.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers Leon and Curtis; her husband Clifford; son-in-law Ted Kitzman; grandson Matthew Kitzman; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. She is survived by her children Judy (Milo) Espe, Warroad, MN, Susan (Jesse) Garcia, Burnsville, MN, Carolyn (Steven) Wymore, Nisswa, MN, and Steve (Lenore) Severson, Roseau, MN; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren including her namesake, Fern Lucy Way.
