Eugene Andrew Rasmussen, 94, of Roseau, MN, died, Friday, July 20, 2007 in Sheltering Oaks Manor in Roseau. He was born September 5, 1912 in Portland, OR to Andrew and Christina (Jeldreks) Rasmussen. Eugene moved to Badger, MN with his family as a young boy. Eugene married Doris Larsen in Wannaska, MN November of 1934. He was a farmer that raised grains, cattle, chickens and other live stock. He and Doris moved back to Portland during World War II to work in the ship yards building ships for the war efforts. Following the war they returned to Minnesota and continued farming.
Following the death of Doris, Eugene moved by to the Portland area to work and live until retiring in 1991 at which time he returned back to Minnesota to be closer to his family.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodworking. When he was 92 years old he bagged two deer, one with his bow and arrow and the other with his rifle. He loved to spend time with his family hunting and sharing stories.
He was a member of the Eagles in Roseau and a member of the Moose Lodge No. 5 in Portland, OR. He was also a former member of the Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska, MN.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris; sons, Paul and Joel Rasmussen; sisters, Minnie Kjear, Laura Gunderson; brother in-laws, Art Gunderson, Orville Kjaer, Harry Kjaer and Milfird Kjear.
Survivors include his son, Orris (Marlene) Rasmussen of Malung, MN; Helen Larsen of Roseau; Mae Kjaer of Fargo, ND; Carol Kjaer of Thief River Falls, MN; step children and several nieces and nephews.
