Roy was born on September 22, 1941 in Biloxi, MS to Orion and Eula Baker. Ernest was a natural athlete. He was a 1959 graduate of Ocean Springs High School, playing as quarter back and receiving the title, Mr. OSHS. He continued sports after college on the Ocean Springs Men’s softball team. He served in MS National Guard, and retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding in January of 2006 after 31 years of service. He went back a short time later as a consultant for Ingalls for several years. Roy was not a man of idleness, during all this time he also worked as a realtor and real estate broker.
