Erling Lundgren, 89, of Warren, MN, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.

He was born on January 10, 1920 in Warren, the son of Edward and Edith Lundgren. He was raised in Warren and graduated from high school in 1937. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1940 and he served in the South Pacific and Australia until his discharge in 1945. Erling returned to Warren and married Jane Hess on June 30, 1946. He went to work for his uncle, Clinton Lundgren, at the Warren Implement Company. In 1957, he purchased City Appliance and operated it for almost 30 years until he retired in 1985. During that time he was active in promoting the city of Warren through the Chamber of Commerce and the Merchant’s Committee.

Erling built a cabin himself at Birch Beach on Lake of the Woods in 1959 where he enjoyed many years of his favorite sport – fishing. Gardening and traveling were also favorite things to do during his retirement. A special highlight for him last year was going on an Honor Flight of WWII veterans to Washington, D.C. with his son Bruce.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #27, First Lutheran Church and a past member of the Warren Fire Department where he served as Assistant Fire Chief.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Jane; two children, Susan (Donald) Anderson of Hallock, MN and Bruce (Candace) Lundgren of Chaska, MN; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Mae Johnson of Richfield, MN and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Warren.
