EMIL “SAM” BOTKO
Emil Botko was born on July 4, 1908 in Warren, Minnesota, one of five sons and three daughters of George and Ella Botko. He passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren, Minnesota at the age of 95.
Emil spent his early years in the farming community of Warren and after marrying Mavis Wood, moved to the Twin Cities in his late twenties. Emil and Mavis raised two sons, Ronn and Curtis in south Minneapolis, where he worked as a welder at Northern Pump during the war years. Later, Emil established his own auto repair shop, a neighborhood fixture off of Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis until the time of his retirement.
Emil married Edith Hyland and had one daughter, Cassandra. Edith predeceased Emil and he and Cassandra spent their time in Minneapolis, with summers at his lake home in Garrison, Minnesota and winters in Brownesville, Texas. In later years, Emil made his home with Cassandra and her family in Memphis, Tennessee.
Emil is survived by his three children, Ronn (Lou) and Curtis (Kay) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Cassandra (Randy) Farris of Memphis, Tennessee. Also surviving are six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren as well as sisters Elsie Conely and Agnes (Leo) Sinn, both of Warren, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Albert, Clarence, Frank, George Jr. and Tom and sister, Mary.
