Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Bonifant Hyde, 84, of Olney, MD, passed away on August 2, 2013. She was the wife of the late Henry Hyde to whom she was married for 51 years. Mrs. Hyde is survived by her five children: Henry Hyde, Jr. (Sue) of Olney, MD, Thomas Hyde (Ruth) of Olney, MD, Catherine Hyde Frey (Tyson) of Doylestown, PA, Mary Ann Hyde Bloomquist (William) of Riva, MD and George Bonifant Hyde (Stephanie) of Olney, MD.
Mrs. Hyde is also survived by her 10 grandchildren: Henry Hyde III, Mary Katherine Kaminski, Thomas Hyde, Jr., Elizabeth Frey Miller, Robert A. Hyde, Steven D. Hyde, Julie L. Frey, Timothy L. Frey, George B. Hyde, Jr. and Brooke E. Bloomquist. In addition, she had 10 great grandchildren: Joshua, Jakob, Shannon, Lila, Megan, Claire, Avery, Carter, Molly and Edward. Mrs. Hyde enjoyed being a homemaker and was devoted to her family, her faith, her friends, and her community. Music was very important to her and she had a beautiful singing voice. As a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, she sang in the choir, played the organ, served as an Eucharistic minister, and comforted the grieving as an Arimathean. Mrs. Hyde was a long time member of the Montgomery General Hospital Women’s Board. For many years, she chaired the dining room of the Hospital Supper and worked in the Hospital’s Thrift Shop. She was also a member of the Friendship Garden Club and was active in other endeavors serving the community.
Born on October 16, 1928, in their Colesville, MD, home, Betty was the youngest daughter of the late Nan Tolson Bonifant and George F. Bonifant. She was preceded in death by her brothers: George F. Jr., John T., Alfred Dement, MD, and Robert L. Bonifant and an infant sister, Catherine. Mrs. Hyde attended Sherwood High School and graduated from the Academy of the Holy Names High School. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Mrs. Hyde is survived by sisters-in-laws, Betsy Bonifant, Vera Bonifant, Nelma Hyde, brother-in-law, Francis Hyde, many nieces and many nephews.
