Scarborough – Earl Maxwell, 93, of Portland, passed away at the Maine Veterans’ Home on June 12, 2013. He was born on January 12, 1920, the son of Ernest and Ella (Folkins) Maxwell. He was raised in Portland, attending and graduating from Portland Schools.
Earl served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, in Normandy, Southern France, the Ardennes and Central Europe. After the war, Earl returned home and worked as a cook for Burnham and Morrill for many years. He had many interests and hobbies during his life, including hunting, gardening and bowling, as a member of the Senior Bowling League at the Big 20. He also enjoyed golfing, through which he was able to re-connect with his brother, Ralph and get to know him much better. He also especially enjoyed lunches and golfing with his dearest friend, Mary.
Earl was pre-deceased by his wife Cecelia (Cullen), brothers Ralph, George and Roy Maxwell and sisters Lottie Conrad, Lillian Wieromiej and Alice Watson. Earl is survived by his children; John L. and Victoria Maxwell of New Hampshire, Raymond C. and Lucy Maxwell of Portland, Earl J. and Nancy Maxwell of Limington, his grandchildren Sarah and John Kayser of Scarborough, Jennifer Maxwell and her husband Gary Stout of New York, Raymond J. and Lisa Maxwell of Gorham, Debra M. Fitzgerald of Portland, Lynda E. and Lorn Nichols of Scarborough and Alex Ming of New Hampshire. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and his dear friend, Mary T. Maxwell.
