Dorothy Jean McDaniel was born at home in Attalla Co., MS on November 2, 1938 to Earl and Christine McDaniel—the oldest of four children. When Dot was 17 years old, the McDaniels moved to Flora where she eventually met her husband, Bob Hales, and started a family of her own. Bob’s career in the Air Force kept their family moving, but they eventually settled back in Flora when Bob retired from the military. Dot took a secretary job at Pickens Lumber Company where she worked with both her sisters for many years until retirement. During retirement, she got a part-time job in the gift shop at the MS Petrified Forrest.
Dot was a very creative, artistic person. She was very active in her church. She was a peaceful, patient woman, loved by many.
Dot is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert “Bob” Hales, Sr.; by her four children Robert “Trooper” Hales, Jr. (Connie), Ricky Hales (Raynell), Scott Hales (Dawn) and Dixie Kirk (Danny); and by her siblings Kathryn Martin (Doyle), Sue Woodward (Steve) and Ralph “Bim” McDaniel (Tracy). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren Tonia Pyles (Matthew), Jennifer Hales, Robin Miller (Kevin), Amber Hales, Christopher Hales (Christy), Taylor Kirk (Tara), Austin Kirk (Cayla), Ian Hales and Layla Hales. She is further survived by her eleven great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Christine McDaniel.
