Dorothy Constance Erickson, age 102, of Fargo, ND, died April 7, 2016, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, in the home she shared with her daughter in Fargo, ND.
She was born on May 25, 1913, in Stephen, MN, the youngest child of Louis and Karen (Knudsen) Schmidt. She attended rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from Stephen High School, class of 1931.
On June 1, 1936, Dorothy was united in marriage to Evert Erickson of Alvarado, MN, at the Alvarado Baptist Church. They resided on a farm north of Alvarado until 1962, when they sold their farm and moved to Warren, MN. Evert and Dorothy celebrated their 50th Golden Wedding anniversary in 1986. Dorothy worked for 15 years at the Emmaus Nursing Home and 16 years at the Warren Elementary School ,retiring on her 80th birthday. After her retirement, she spent many years as a volunteer at the DAC and Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Over the years, many family and friends enjoyed being the recipients of Dorothy’s beautiful crocheted items. They also enjoyed her annual decorative homemade Swedish rosettes.
In 2001, she moved with her daughter, Faye, to Fargo, where she has since resided.
Dorothy was a role model for her family as we observed her strong faith in God bringing her through the hardships and trials of her life. Dorothy’s quiet strength and supportive presence brought comfort to family members and friends during difficult times.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Paulson of Rupert, ID ,and Faye Satkunam of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Steffanie Buzzell of Meridian, ID, Ken Satkunam of Fargo, and Bobbi (Brian) Cofer of Eagle, ID; six great grandchildren, Kiera and Jenna Buzzell, Noah and Dylan Satkunam, and Kendall and Paige Cofer; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Harry) Schmidt of Karlstad, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her dear husband of 55 years, Evert; her parents; four brothers, Hans, Andrew, Sophus, and Harry Schmidt; three sisters, Sophie Roland, Anna Hvidsten, and Louise Becklund; and son-in-law Robert Paulson.
