Georgetown – Donald “Bud” Warren Grant, 86, of South Bay Road, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at home.
Bud was born in Franklin, Maine on March 30, 1931, a son of Alton and Ida (Matchette) Grant.
After graduating from Bangor High School, he was employed at the Bangor Hydro Electric Company. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and served in the Korean Conflict in communications and at one point was behind enemy lines. He returned to Bangor Hydro after his military service and was later employed as a manager at a ski shop in Orono. He was also on Ski Patrol and gave ski lessons at Hermon Mountain. He was employed by Bangor Parks and Recreation, where he served on the nationally sanctioned Kenduskeag Stream Race Committee. He continued as starter for the race for 45 years, even after he moved to other jobs. He worked in Code Enforcement in Bangor and Brewer. He volunteered as Clerk of the Works for the construction of the new East Orrington Congregational Church. He taught Electrical Certification classes and was on the Governor’s Council for Energy Efficient Housing and the State Electrician Examining Board.
He was a Mason and member of the Shrine, second section.
While living on their farm in Orrington, Bud and his wife, Ellen, were volunteer guides for blind and visually impaired skiers on Hermon Mountain.
In 2004, Bud and Ellen moved to Georgetown. He was on the Georgetown Planning Board as well as Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Spalding Grant, of Georgetown, an aunt, Margaret Comeau, and a cousin, Frank Comeau, both of Old Town, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Merle Roberts and Doris Kellogg.
