Old Orchard Beach – Donald Lothrop Coldwell, Sr, 67, died surrounded by his family on April 6, 2013 at the Gosnell House, ending a three year battle with cancer.

Born in Bangor Maine, he was the son of James E. and J. Joyce (MacEwen) Coldwell. He was educated in Orrington and Portland schools, graduating in 1963 from Portland High School.

Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a communications specialist with a tour of duty in Turkey.

Using his GI bill, he pursued a degree at the University of Maine in forestry, earning a masters degree in 1974.

Don then began his 30 year career as a loss prevention consultant with Industrial Risk Insurers.

After retirement, he volunteered in the library at New England Bible College, spent time with his grandchildren and vacationed. He was an active member of Hollis Center Baptist Church, until his death, serving in many varied capacities.

He was predeceased by his father and is survived by his wife of 45 years; Elizabeth (Betty) A. (Coffin) Coldwell.

Surviving family also includes his mother, a brother, Arthur J., a sister Margaret (Peigi) Holmes, a daughter, Deanne Robertson and her husband Jonathan, a son, Donald Jr. and his wife Laurie, and 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dugan and his team at MCCM for their care, dedication and kindness.
