NEW ALBANY- Deacon Melvin Nesbit, 66, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. 

Melvin Nesbit was born August 31, 1951 at Union County Hospital, New Albany, MS, the fifth child born to the union of  the late Hardin and Virginia Mae Nesbit. He departed this life March 30, 2018.  He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Zion Chapel M.B. Church in New Albany, MS. Later in his adult life he became a member of Union Hill M.B. Church in Oxford, MS under the leadership of Rev. Walter Nash, who was the pastor at that time. He became an ordained Deacon of Union Hill and served and worshipped faithfully until his health began to deteriorate.

Melvin was a graduate of West Union High School and continued his education at Northeast MS Community College in Booneville, MS. He was an avid sports fan and watching them was his favorite past-time. He also played various sports throughout his high school and college days, and even into his adult years. 

Melvin went on to marry Linda Kay Owens (Nesbit) of Etta, MS and  three children were born to this union. He was employed at Mohasco Furniture Company for several years until closing and later was employed at Wal-Mart Distribution center where he was a Maintenance Technician. Melvin served at the Wal-Mart D.C. for 10 years until his health began to fail.

To honor, cherish and celebrate his life he leaves his children: Teresa Owens Longmire, Angela Owens and Brian Nesbit all of Oxford, MS, Garrian Knox of Antioch, TN, 10 grandchildren: Jaleen Owens, Imari Owens, Cameron Longmire, JakylanStandifer, Joshua Standifer, Breionna Standifer, Dominique Burnett, Sariyah Nesbit, Elijah Knox, and Kyesen Nesbit, 2 great-grandchildren: Mason and Messiah Owens, siblings: Virgil (Betty) Nesbit, Hardin C. (Mary) Nesbit, Gary Nesbit, Theotis Nesbit, Shelia Keys of North Carolina, Phil (Tanya) Nesbit, Jesse Mosley, Sarah Mosley, Nina Foote, Modess Nesbit and Mallie Nesbit, Barbara Howard of Jackson, MS a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Hardin and Virginia Mae Nesbit, and two sisters: Shirley Nesbit and Cammie Kay Nesbit.
