Woolwich – David A. Allen, 78, of River Road died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Mid Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick. He was born in Bath on January 26, 1939, a son of Arthur H. and Lois E. (Reed) Allen.
David grew up in Woolwich attending the one-room schoolhouse in Day’s Ferry. He graduated from Morse High School with the class of 1956. In August, 1957, he started at Bath Iron Works as a shipfitter. His 1961 class was among the first to graduate from the recently developed apprenticeship program. He retired in January, 2003 with over 45 years of service. The majority of his service was spent as a Loftsman. His extended employment service was honored by BIW in 2001 with an invitation to ride the launch of the USS Mason (DDG 87), the last ship to slide the inclined ways.
David enjoyed his lifelong camp that he built on Moosehead Lake in the early 1960’s. The camp was built before the roads were complete requiring the remote transport of building supplies.
