Age 73, of Wayzata, MN, passed away on December 30, 2013.
He was born in Newfolden, MN on August 20, 1940, to Clarence and Myrtle Jorgenson.
From a very early age, Clyde had an entrepreneurial spirit, with jobs ranging from trapping mink on his family’s property when he was 7 to being a farmhand before he joined the US Army. This entrepreneurial vision would serve him well throughout his life. After working in various US locations with a drywall contractor, Clyde returned to Minnesota and began working for a local drywall company, a move that would prove to change his life forever. In 1968, Clyde and his brother Ron formed their own drywall company, Jorgenson Brothers Drywall, Inc., in Hamel, MN. Building Jorgenson Brothers Drywall into a successful business from the ground up, they looked to expand the business in 1972. It was at that point that they developed a gypsum-based underlayment…and subsequently began the gypsum underlayment industry.
Clyde and Ron incorporated a new company, Acoustical Floors, and traveled the country pouring this new underlayment in apartment buildings. Soon the underlayment was in high demand nationwide, and they began a national dealer network who installed the products. In 1976 they officially named the product Gyp-Crete and incorporated the Gyp-Crete Corporation. With a vision and through hard work and dedication the company grew, and reflecting an ever-growing product line, in 1995 Gyp-Crete Corporation became Maxxon Corporation. Maxxon Corporation continues to be the leader in the underlayment and sound control industry with over 125 licensed dealers throughout North America.
Clyde and Ron founded Maxxon with an idea…and their hard work and dedication made it into the company it is today. Clyde’s life was dedicated to ensuring Maxxon’s success and he took great pride in the company, employees, and dealer network. He valued the relationships he formed with everyone over the years and enjoyed hearing updates on how they were doing even after his retirement.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Myrtle Jorgenson. He is survived by his children: Robert (Lee Ann) Jorgenson of Minneapolis, MN; Richard Jorgenson, of Minneapolis, MN; Tonia Jorgenson of Madison, WI; Dawn (Chad) Brommer of St. Michael, MN; and Lisa (Mark) Larson of Argyle, MN; as well as seven grandchildren: Justin (Michelle), Emily, Alyssa, and Jared Scharpen; and Brandon, Jacob, and Lauren Brommer.
